The entire team at Kevin McManus Law extends our heartfelt congratulations to Aubrey Schwartze on her well-deserved win of our 2025 Overcoming Adversity Through Sports Scholarship. We look forward to seeing her continue to grow and inspire others both on and off the court.
She Has Destiny Written in Her Heart
The winning essay presents an authentic narrative that clearly illustrates resilience. Aubrey begins by sharing her early passion for basketball. She then recounts significant physical and emotional challenges that tested her resilience. Through these experiences, she ultimately rediscovers her sense of purpose and finds new meaning in the sport she grew up with.
Vivid, specific details (such as injuries, recovery experiences, and athletic accomplishments) bring the story to life and engage the reader. The essay also conveys emotional depth and honesty, particularly in discussing setbacks and the mental struggles they caused.
For Aubrey, a song from Barbie: A Princess and The Pauper that once captured her imagination as a child has become a meaningful reflection of the hardships she has faced as an athlete and as a person, and how those challenges have shaped her character. As the song suggests, destiny is truly written in the heart.

How Aubrey Schwartze Stays Active On and Off the Field
A senior at Vienna High School, Aubrey recently reached a historic milestone by scoring her 1,500th career point and recording her 1,000th career rebound in basketball. She is the first student in school history to accomplish both.
An unexpected opportunity to coach a fourth-grade girls’ basketball team became a turning point in her journey. Although hesitant at first, the experience gradually changed her perspective on the game and helped her rediscover her sense of purpose. Supporting her players’ growth and celebrating their successes became more meaningful than her own achievements.
Off the court, Aubrey maintains an impressive involvement in school and community activities. She serves as president of her National Honor Society chapter, volunteers at blood drives and the local food pantry, and organizes the annual Veterans’ Day assembly. She is also active in numerous other clubs and associations while serving as the Senior Class President.
Charting a Path Beyond the Court
Academically, Aubrey is focused on her goal of becoming a radiologic technologist. She plans to continue her studies at the University of Central Missouri, where she will complete two years of coursework followed by two years of clinical rotations.
After college, she plans to work in a sports injury and medicine clinic to help athletes recover and return to the activities they love, while continuing to mentor young athletes as a middle school basketball coach.
Roots of Resilience
Aubrey credits her family as her greatest inspiration, citing their unwavering support and belief in her abilities. Their guidance has instilled the values of hard work and resilience, which she applies both on the field and in her personal life. Aubrey wants to inspire others to overcome setbacks. After all, challenges can lead to personal discovery and success.
