This is a $2,000 academic-based scholarship award for student-athletes who have faced challenges head-on and come out stronger. Whether you’re balancing practice with exams, recovering from an injury, or navigating personal hurdles, we want to hear your story of triumph.
As injury and disability attorneys, we know what it takes to push through tough times. This scholarship is one way we can cheer you on as you chase your dreams in college and beyond. We encourage students from all areas of study to participate. No matter your area of study or sport—we invite all student-athletes pursuing higher education at an accredited college or university in the U.S. to apply. The requirements are listed below. Please make sure to submit your essay and form submission by October 30, 2025.

At Kevin McManus Law, we believe in the power of giving back—a commitment that inspired the creation of the KML Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting our community through education, advocacy, and service.
Founded by Kevin McManus and supported by our legal team, the Foundation champions causes that make a real difference, with a special focus on empowering young people through sports, scholarship, and community engagement. From promoting youth athletics to providing financial aid for higher education, the KML Charitable Foundation is committed to opening doors and creating opportunities for the next generation.

Who Can Apply?
This scholarship is for students who meet the following criteria:
- 3.0 GPA (provide an unofficial transcript)
- High school seniors currently playing a sport (any kind—school, club, or recreational)
- Enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college or university in the U.S.
- U.S. citizens
- Write a 500- to 700-word essay sharing how sports empowered you to overcome adversity (see below for more details)
- Apply using the form on our website by October 30, 2025 and agree to the Terms and Conditions

Essay Topic: Show Us Your Comeback!
We’re all about celebrating student-athletes who’ve faced big challenges and used their sports experience to elevate. Think of a moment when you hit a wall—maybe an injury sidelined you, team drama tested your patience, or life threw you a curveball. How did the lessons you learned on the field, court, or track help you bounce back?
Share your story! Tell us:
- What setback did you face (physical, emotional, social, or academic)?
- How did your sports experience give you the tools to overcome it?
- What did you learn from sports that made you a better athlete, student, and person?
We’re looking for heart, authenticity, and a glimpse of how overcoming adversity through sports helped you become a stronger, better version of you.
Essay Guidelines
To apply, make sure your 500-700 word essay scores points by following the prompts. After completing your essay, fill out the application form on this page and upload your document as a PDF file.
To make sure your essay scores points, please:
- Put your info in a header with your full name, student ID number, scholarship name, the name of your enrolled institution, and the mailing address of your financial aid office for award distribution. Additionally, provide the email address and phone number of your financial aid office.
- Give it a catchy title that grabs attention.
- Cite your sources. Include a bibliography listing all references, including books, websites, articles, magazines, reports, and other materials you relied on.
- Keep it original: No AI tools or plagiarized content—your voice matters! Essays must be completely original and written by you. All ideas and content should be your own, and any references or outside sources must be properly credited. Submitting plagiarized work in any form will lead to immediate disqualification from the scholarship process.

Key Dates, Details & Deadline
- Deadline: October 30, 2025—don’t sleep on this! (No applications will be accepted after this date.)
- Review Process: Our scholarship selection committee will carefully assess all applications. Depending on the volume of submissions, the review process may take as long as three months. If additional information is needed, we’ll contact you personally. (For legal purposes, we’re unable to accept inquiries regarding the scholarship by phone, email, or other communication channels.)
- Winner Notification: We’ll notify the winner by email, announce them on our blog, and send the $2,000 directly to their school’s financial aid office.
Terms to Know
All individuals applying for this scholarship must fulfill the eligibility criteria outlined on the scholarship application page, which include:
- The applicant must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or graduate program.
- The applicant must be at least 18 years old at the time of enrollment.
- The applicant must be a U.S. resident.
- The applicant must maintain good academic standing.
- The applicant is required to provide personal details, including their name, contact information, and academic background.
- The applicant must create an original essay on the designated scholarship topic.
The following individuals are NOT eligible to apply:
- Employees or their immediate family members of Kevin McManus Law
- Previous recipients of the “Overcoming Adversity Through Sports” Scholarship
- Applicants who are unable or unwilling to participate in an interview with a representative of Kevin McManus Law if selected for the scholarship
- Applicants who submit the same essay for multiple scholarships or consecutive years
Winner Selection and Award Notification
The year 2025 marks the start of our annual “Overcoming Adversity Through Sports” Scholarship, and future recipients will be mentioned here. The scholarship award recipient will be notified via email and interviewed for the results announcement on Kevin McManus Law’s blog and through a press release.
All applications must be submitted before the October 30, 2025 deadline. Incomplete submissions or those received after the deadline will not be considered. Our scholarship selection committee will review all applications with equal consideration to all applicants, and none will be influenced by age, race, religion, gender, national origin, family status, or any other protected category.
The scholarship award will be sent directly to the recipient’s college or university. We will request instructions for mailing the check. (We reserve the right to contact the winner for additional information or documentation to verify their enrollment and academic standing.)
Due to legal requirements and the large volume of applications, we’re unable to provide status updates on applications or notify non-recipients individually.
